Summer Festival

In Japan summer means Fireworks!!! And fireworks come with festivals, yukata and cotton candy.
Yesterday we all went to the Hitachi Port festival right near our house. It was windy and a little cold so we did not get to stay too long. Raffaella was so excited to wear her new yukata, and we all took a walk enjoying the traditional food stands and looking at people and young girls wearing the colorful yukata. Chris was excited and very curious about this new experience. Unfortunately he did not enjoy the fireworks too much and got nervous and started shaking.....just like that he fell asleep! Poor baby, maybe next year he will like them more!!

Trip to Tokyo

Last week my mom and sister arrived to Japan. A long trip of 12 hours, fortunately with no problems, besides the fact that all flight attendants were Japanese and neither one of the two can speak Japanese or them speak Italian!!! Somehow they managed to eat and drink and also sleep so I guess I can say: no problems!!
After a few days to adjust to the new environment and the initial culture shock, it seems that they are doing fine.

Yesterday we went to Tokyo for lunch and sightseeing, and after doubts of what would be best for them we opted for Teppanyaki. After all, it's simply some grilled fish and meat with some vegetables. We all enjoyed the wonderful lunch and Chris was also a good, good baby. Besides dropping and throwing his little car in the restaurant and yelling, buh buh buh buh to all the waiters, he behaved great. A little tour of Tokyo Tower and shopping in Nihonbashi was enough. At the end Chris was so excited but also so tired that he slept almost all the way back home.
I think he was not so interested in sightseeing!!

Japan wonders!!!

Those of you who are or have been to Japan know exactly what I am talking about when I say that fruits and vegetables are probably the most expensive food compared to other countries.
Well, then you won't be surprised to see what I found last weekend in a big and fancy shopping mall in Tokyo.
Yes! You saw it right! The watermelon is square, or triangular, or other shapes other than round!!
I could not help to take pictures and then asking how much one of those pieces would cost.
Judging from the prices of other fruits like the cherries, I thought that I probably would have to sell my car to buy it! One box of cherries was 10.000 Yen (aprox. 100 dollars!!!).
Ok, hold on here. Ready: the price of one of those watermelons was 100.000 Yen!! Yes! Just about 1000 dollars!
Raise your hand if you still like watermelon!!!
